  Fall semester is here! It was great to see so many of you at the CAMD Welcome Day event yesterday. The following question was posed to you: How do you want to connect with the CAMD Community? Thanks to everyone who shared some great ideas of fun, social activities. CAMD F1RST Scholars Program  aims to provide First Generation (FirstGen) college students with the opportunity to engage with one another through a cohort-based model that focuses on academic success, career exploration, cultural immersion, identity exploration, networking, mentoring, professional development, and wellness. Hello and welcome to CAMD Connections!  I’m Rachel Moo, the Assistant Dean of Diversity Engagement & Initiatives for the College of Arts, Media, and Design (CAMD) at Northeastern University. As concepts like diversity, equity, and inclusion become more common, their nuanced meanings can sometimes be overlooked or misunderstood. It's crucial to recognize that these terms carry significant weight and should be used thoughtfully. Here’s how I define each term: Diversity : The presence of differences within a setting, group, or organization. Equity : Acknowledging that individuals have different needs and circumstances, and ensuring that everyone receives what they need to succeed. Equality : Providing the same resources and opportunities to everyone, regardless of individual needs. Inclusion : Creating environments where individuals feel welcomed, respected, supported, and valued, with a focus on fostering a sense of belonging.
